The history of "FORTUNATUS" kennel goes back as far as
1974.
Firstly it was my own adventure, but a couple years
later it became
my children's' hobby. So in this short description I
will sometimes use "I" and sometimes "We".
In 1974 I joined The Polish Kennel Club because I
wanted to buy a
big poodle, before this I had only ever owned a German
Shephard, which unfortunately
suffered from weak pasterns.
I didn't end up buying a poodle but an Afghanhound
in 1976.
The
Afghan came from Łódź and she was called FORTUNE Farah
Rud, at home I simply
called her "Angela". I travelled with Angela to dog
shows and although we
didn't win first prize we never gave up and kept
travelling ,sometimes even
abroad.
At dog shows I met a lot of interesting people, both
enthusiasts and
breeders like myself.
These new contacts gave me a new bitch: SARAH z Pawłowiczowej Wanty - she was a very beautiful dog and had a German
father. Both my dogs had very
different
characters: Angela loved the world but Sarah loved
only me - and
she was the greatest dog I had ever owned and she
became my best friend.

It was about 1976 when I registered
the name of my kennel: "FORTUNATUS" in The Polish
Kennel Club - the title came from the
name of my first bitch: FORTUNA.
I only ever thought that I would have a kennel of
Afghans, but then I discovered a new, beautiful breed
which was so wonderful, this was the Saluki
In days gone by, literature about dogs in Poland
didn't exist but by chance I was told about a magazine
called "WINDHUND" which introduced me to this new and
exciting breed.
The Saluki had big, beautiful eyes which I couldn't
resist and I had to
have one. I wrote lots of letters over a two year
period to different
breeders and finally chose a bitch from Holland called
INDIRA from the Gamara
kennel. She, I hoped, would become a Champion and she
proved me right, she would
become the first of many!
So that was how it begin: a new Saluki came to me, I
started to
organize the first races of dogs from the group 10
Class.
MY HUSKIES...
In 1990 I traveled to Brno in Czech Rebublic to see
the World Dog Show and there I bought a silver& white
bitch with beautiful different coloured
eyes: her name was DANINA Vevelóv Dum, for my son
Tomek.

My family
and I had always loved reading books by Jack London
and we would imagine how wonderful
it would be to run with a team of fast dogs from the
Far North!

Danina gave us a lot of joy and happiness and showed
us how Huskies
could be specific and independent animals, quite the
same as the Saluki.
In 1991 Blaquejac's ERYK FORTUNATUS arrived in our
family from the USA with the help of Małgosia Supronowicz, a famous dog judge.
Eryk bacame the one of the best male Huskies in Poland
and fathered
more than 15 Champions! He was also the leader of my
sled team, and won a
lot of sled races. At this point in time my family and
I were
members of a Club which organized the First Sled Dogs
Competitions in Poland.
Along with other owners of northern hemisphere dogs we
organized the first
race in Szczypiorno near Pomiechówek and later in
Stara Miłosna - this went on to become a yearly event.

First we ran in the "scandinavian" class, which means
one dog, one person
and the dog pulls a small load.
Later we bought and bred more huskies so we could
train them in teams (more...) and to take part in dog shows of course!(more...)
So eventually our FORTUNATUS kennel became a huskies
kennel. We took
pride in ourselves knowing that from our first couple:
ERYK an DANINA were born one
of the first husky litters in Poland, 11 puppies! In
this litter a bitch called FIRST LADY Fortunatus was
born who had the tattoo number: "A
001"!!!

In 2002 and 2003 our last Saluki's died.
Ch.Pl. NEFSANA Fortunatus died when she was 16 and
Ch.Pl.
PUSTYNNA KSIĘŻNICZKA Fortunatus was 14.
Now the Huskies
with their excellent temperament fill our life with
happiness.
One of our targets in breeding is to rear dogs which
are not
only for shows but also for racing. Huskies are dogs
which are used for numorous tasks, for example,
people use them to track wild animals and after
special training can be
used to work with expeditions, to work with children
and even guide dogs for the blind
and disabled people.
Loved Huskies and well educated Huskies are universal
dogs.
Please visit our website where are lots of
interesting photos and
information on our dogs.
